Stars Shine At FC Comets Festival

15:35 GMT, Wednesday, 25 June 08. By Editor Disability Football

As the Summer Festivals and Tournaments get underway around the County during the close season, FC Comets continued their fantastic disability work and their disability side showed exactly how far they've come.

At the tournament the Special Needs team bravely took on a star-studded team selected from the managers of other Comets teams.

However, despite the silky skills of the Managers, it was Special Needs, seemingly buoyed by the wearing of their new kit from Pelada, who took the only first half goal.. Early in the second period Steve Lord was desperately unlucky to put through his own net to make the score 2 – 0. This appeared to rattle the Managers. Their play became disjointed and they took to complaining to the premiership referee David Denham, who, in all fairness, did make some pretty controversial decisions under the scrutiny of FA chairman, John Marchant. It will be a surprise if Denham is still a premiership referee next season.

Managers conceded a further five goals as Special Needs’ confidence grew. The game ended with the managers surrounding the referee in an attempt to have the result overturned but Denham, unlike Gordon Brown, was not for turning.

The scorers were Lee Curtin 2, Thomas Ward 2, and Joshua Fernandes 1, plus the unfortunate o.g.

Hertfordshire FA Chief Executive, John Marchant presented the Special Needs team with its awards and, as you can see from the photo, they were estactic.
