The aim of the forums is to gather the thoughts and opinions on 11a side football, from the people that are involved in the game on a week by week, season by season basis including referees, clubs and volunteers.
Topics of discussion included:
- Issues affecting clubs and players continuing to play 11a side on Saturdays and Sundays.
- Are teams receiving enough support from their parent clubs, leagues and the County FA.
- What will football look like in 2020?
- What is the current picture locally for 11v11? Is it a good one?
- Outlining feedback from leagues about 11v11
Some Key Statements
Some of the feedback from the attendees pointed towards the introduction of U21 football between youth and adult football as a stepping stone for some players.
Having larger clubs looking after more teams to give greater support for the "one man show" that many 11a side teams are.
Providing clearer pathways for players so they know where to go once they finish youth football if they want to play adult football.
Small sided football has impacted on the participation levels in 11a side, but what can we learn from this to make 11v11 more attractive for people to play.
These were just some of the many points that came out during the course of the workshop at Hemel Snow Centre. Next up is Central Hertfordshire where the forum will be hosted by Hertfordshire University in Hatfield.
There are still spaces available on the remainding four workshop across the County and this is your chance to have your say and let us know whether you agree with what West Hertfordshire had to say.
