John Turner

In Memory of John Turner

We were greatly saddened to hear of the recent passing of John Turner, whose loss will be keenly felt across football in Hertfordshire and beyond
We were greatly saddened to hear of the recent passing of John Turner, whose loss will be keenly felt across football in Hertfordshire and beyond

Perhaps best known for his longstanding involvement with Bishops Stortford FC, John was a widely known and extremely well respected figure in our community who had made an immense contribution to the game over the course of many decades.

A former director of the National League, John’s vast knowledge and experience of non-league football made him an invaluable asset in his role at Hertfordshire FA.

Having served on our Council for a number of years, John had recently become a Director of the Association and even in his short time in this role he was already making a major contribution. We and football in general will be poorer for his loss.

Among many tributes from across the game, Brian Curtis, Chair of Hertfordshire FA said:

"We are all deeply shocked to learn of John’s sudden passing. He was a football man through and through and someone who had contributed so much to the game. His expertise in both in football and in business made John an ideal member of our Board. He will be sadly missed by all of us at Hertfordshire FA. Our thoughts are with his family at this most difficult time."

For those that would like to pay their respects, John’s funeral will take place at 10am on Monday 22nd October at Parndon Wood Crematorium in Harlow.

After this a wake will be held at Bishops Stortford FC and all those who knew him are welcome to attend and share their memories of John.

For anyone looking to make a donation in John’s honour we have been advised that the family have asked that people support Grove Cottage.
