Chris gets involved at every opportunity and works with Stevenage FC Foundation to come up with ways in which players can give back to their local community, ways for the Foundation to fundraise and really make an impact.

Chris holds a number of additional roles within the football club beyond his playing and coaching duties including:

• PFA Ambassador for Stevenage FC for a number of years
• Acts as a link between the Foundation and 1st team to coordinate all players’ visits
• Has assisted the Foundation in putting together a fundraising events calendar for 2017
• Ever present at visits to half-term soccer camps

Chris is always the first name down on the list for school visits and taking the lead on educating/supporting other players with discussion topics such as team work, role models, goal setting & confidence as part of the Foundation's Aspire programme.

At the start of the season, along with other players, Chris went out to hand deliver season tickets to young Stevenage FC fans and worked alongside the club’s Supporters Association to organise a visit to the children's ward at Lister Hospital in Stevenage. As well as providing gifts for children, chocolates for parents and pizzas for hospital staff.

Chris explains his reasons for getting involved :

"Myself, the players and staff fully appreciate the importance of the work being done in and around our local community. Whether it be a club soccer camp, schools visits to help educate and inspire pupils and teachers alike or a visit to the kids bluebell ward at Lister Hospital to spread a little bit of joy and presents at Christmas.

"We were all once the young child that listens and hopefully learn, and spreading that inspiration to the next generation is something that should be rewarding for all involved."

Darren Sarll, 1st Team Manager highlighted the importance of Chris’s role at the football club:

"Chris is a fantastic community ambassador for Stevenage Football club and in his nine years at the club, has always strived to get involved with community projects of all sizes.

"At a club like Stevenage our work in the community is essential to engaging with fans present, past and future and it's a sign of the man he is that he'll often go above and beyond what's needed to help out.

"We have a real family ethos at Boro and Chris performs a vital role in working with his fellow players to ensure we connect with those people and projects around us that require our support."

Bob Makin, Stevenage FC General Manager echoed Sarll’s words:

"Chris has been around Stevenage Football Club for a long time now but his commitment to the work the Foundation delivers and wider community work have never wavered. We're incredibly lucky to have a player like Chris here at Stevenage and he fully deserves the nomination for this award."

He not only helps to involve players in as many of our projects but also helps in coming up with new ways for the players to engage with their fan base and local community.

Chris will be presented with a special trophy at the home game between Stevenage and Accrington Stanley on Saturday 6th May.
