Soloman James’s close-range winner two minutes from time was enough to separate the two evenly matched sides in windy conditions at the County Ground in Letchworth.
Hertford got off to a dream start as Brian Pinto took advantage of bouncing ball in the opposition box to head home from close range and give his team a 1-0 lead just 4 minutes into the game!
Both teams then started to find some rhythm in their play after a frantic opening 10 minutes.
After their uncertain opening, Sun Sports started to find a foothold in the final, with James Foley coming closest to finding an equaliser in the opening exchanges.
The Sun forward shot narrowly wide in the 20th minute after finding himself with space in the box. Then 5 minutes later, Foley robbed the ball off the opposition in a dangerous area before seeing his effort saved smartly by Hertford keeper, Cameron Meadows, following a sharp give & go with team-mate Wilson.
After an impressive first half of football in difficult conditions, Sun Sports finally got the goal they needed on the stroke of half time though. David Emiloju pounced on a cross from Leo Chappin and confidently volleyed into the bottom corner to equalise and make it 1-1!
Almost immediately after the interval, Hertford Town came close to retaking the cup final lead. Soloman James teeing up Ben Winter in the 6 yard box, only to see Sun defender Kian O'Reilly superbly block his goal-bound effort.

Having absorbed some early pressure from Hertford, Sun Sports built an electric counter attack through Bryn Wilson & James Foley in the 50th minute. After some quick interplay, Wilson’s shot was kept out as Cameron Meadow made another brave save in the Blues goal.
In the last 20 minutes, the EJA League leaders pinned their opponents back with the wind at their back, and came close to finding that elusive goal. Firstly Archie Sayer’s snap half-volley from the top of the 19 yard box whistled past the post, before Luke Di Rubbo drew a fingertip save from Hopping in the Sun Sports goal.
However it took until the last minute of the game for the Blues to break down the Sun Sports defence; Soloman James showing excellent composure to volley home from 8 yards, making Hertford Town FC the U14 County Cup Champions for the 2016/17 season.
