Hertfordshire Under 18's travelled to Sussex in the South East Counties Youth Competition is search of a win after they were knocked out of the FA County Youth Cup last time out.

It was the visitors who had the first chance to break the deadlock, from a corner early on, Adam Perry connecting with his head but sending the ball high and wide.

Hertfordshire had another chance soon after, with Perry again meeting a loose ball from a free-kick, but unable to beat the Hosts’ goalkeeper. Minutes later,

Hertfordshire had another chance; this time Tariq Bakkali’s curling effort denied by the Sussex keeper.

Five minutes before half-time Sussex could no longer withstand the wave of Hertfordshire attacks, as Jack Walker plays the ball over the top for Callum Stead to run on-to and round the keeper, who was finally beaten.

The second half saw end-to-end action, with Sussex winning a penalty in the 73rd minute, and after being calmly dispatched by Waters; it was game-on again.

Like Hertfordshire had in the first half, it was Sussex piling on the pressure this time, and ten minutes later, Sussex had the ball in the back of the visitors net again courtesy of Broughton.

The hosts had come from behind to lead Hertfordshire 2-1 in the last few minutes of the game.

There was a chance for an equaliser late on as Tola Showunmi broke away down the left flank, but his driven cross wasn’t met.

It finished 2-1 to Sussex FA.
