In Memory of Stephen Hedley

We were greatly saddened to hear of the recent passing of Stephen Hedley, Chair of the Representative Football Committee at Hertfordshire FA

We were greatly saddened to hear of the recent passing of Stephen Hedley, Chair of the Representative Football Committee at Hertfordshire FA

Stephen was a dedicated servant of the game, having continued a family tradition of a long standing involvement with Hertford Town FC, where he joined the committee in 1979 as his father Harry and brother John had done before him.

There he soon took up the role of Club Secretary, a position he carried out with great distinction for the next 25 years.

This role put Stephen's multi-tasking skills to good use, everything from hosting visiting officials on match days to filling in the all-important team sheets, and his place in the history of Hertford Town FC over this time cannot be overstated

He later brought the benefit of his considerable football knowledge and experience to Hertfordshire FA, where he joined the Council in 1990. He was a passionate supporter of football in our county and committed advocate of the representative game.

His contribution during his time with the Association was considerable and his loss will be keenly felt throughout the Hertfordshire football community and beyond. Among many tributes from across the game, Brian Curtis, Chair of Hertfordshire FA said:

“Stephen was a true football man and his untimely passing leaves the game much the poorer for his loss. He will be sadly missed.”

Everyone at Hertfordshire FA sends their condolences to Stephen's family and friends and our thoughts are with his wife and daughters at this most difficult time.

We were very touched that they felt able to join us at our two recent Representative matches where tributes were paid to Stephen and a minutes silence held in his honour.

We’re sure he would have been very proud of both team’s efforts and the spirit shown in these games under difficult circumstances served as a fitting tribute to his memory.

For those that would like to pay their respects, Stephen’s funeral will take place at 12:45pm on Tuesday 18th December at Hertford Methodist Church.
