County Cup Round-up: Issue 4
Saturday Intermediate Cup – Hadley Reserves 0-4 Hertford Town Development
Herts Senior County League Division One side Hadley Reserves took on Hertford Town Development who apply their trade in the Spartan South Midlands Under 25 (Development) Division.
Both sides looked strong going into the final, with Haldey knocking out Royston Town Reserves in the semi-final whilst Hertford Town cruised past Oxhey Jets Reserves, recording a 4-0 victory.
It weighed up to be a close game, which was evident as the teams entered the break with Hertford leading 1-0.
However, the difference in ability between the two sides showed as Hertford Town got their second, followed by their third and fourth of the game.
It ended 4-0 to The Blues.
Girls U12 Challenge Cup – Watford FC Girls Academy 3-1 Borehamwood 2000
Watford FC Girls Academy are enjoying a successful season as they sit top of their Capital Girls League table with only one loss to their name and recording 22 goals on their way to the County Cup Final.
Borehamwood 2000, members of the Hertfordshire Girls Partnership League, were The Hornets opponents as they faced off at The County Ground for the Girls U12 Challenge Cup.
In what was expected to be a closely contested game, Watford took the lead through Hannah Rostek in the 14th minute, with Boreham Wood failing to come up with a reply before the half-time whistle.
However, The Wood did mount a comeback when Francesca Grazioli netted from the spot to draw level.
The Hornets replied quickly and were back ahead just minutes after Boreham Wood had found their equaliser, 2-1.
In the dying minutes of a game full of quality, Watford sealed the deal with a third goal that crowned them 2017/18 Girls U12 Challenge Cup Champions.
Boys U12 Challenge Cup – London Colney Colts & Cougars 4-1 Cheshunt Youth Blues
London Colney Colts & Cougars won the Boys U12 Challenge Cup Final in some style after recording a 4-1 Cup Final win over an impressive Cheshunt Youth Blues side.
The Colts had netted 39 goals in six games leading up to the final, whilst Cheshunt had 15 goals to their name in five games, conceding only once, however.
Cheshunt had evidently been strong at the back whilst London Colney Colts had been impressive going forward, with a 14-0 and 10-0 win included in their victories on route to the Final, which set up an entertaining game at The County Ground.
In the end, 4-1 was a fairly tight score line. Congratulations to both teams on a successful County Cup campaign!
Boys U18 Challenge Cup – Potters Bar 3-0 Cheshunt Youth Blacks
In Cheshunt’s second Cup final of the day at The County Ground, the U18’s, just like the U12’s, fell just short.
Potters Bar, a strong outfit, made it difficult for Cheshunt who are currently top of the Mid Herts Rural Minors League Premier Division.
The Scholars (Potters Bar) apply their trade in the Eastern Junior Alliance Green League and after a tough season, sit seventh out of eight.
Despite this, they’ve recorded some strong results on their way to the Boys U18 County Cup Final, seeing off some difficult opposition in Broxbourne Borough and Ware.
Potters Bar were dominant on the day however, with Cheshunt failing to get going as they hoped to complete an imminent double.
Congratulations to the Scholars on their Challenge Cup win and Cheshunt on their successful season!
