Last weekend saw a festival of Futsal as teams from across Hertfordshire contested our Youth Futsal Cup
Now in its eighth year, this competition was set up to promote Futsal, offer an opportunity to try Futsal in a competitive environment and provide a route into The FA Youth National Futsal Cup. These core aims still remain the same even as it has grown with the ever increasing interest in the format across the county.
This year saw a record number of entries across the different age groups, with an Under 8s section included for the first time, resulting in a tournament that saw over 130 fixtures completed across 3 courts over the course of 10 hours.
In line with the aims of the event, this included both experienced teams from established Futsal clubs as well as those who were trying the format competitively for the first time. Nevertheless the standard of play on show was excellent, with spectators treated to a fantastic view of the action from the gallery at Herts Sports Village.
With games lasting 8 minutes and just 60 seconds break between fixtures throughout the day, there was plenty of opportunity to absorb the unique spectacle of this fast paced format.
Hertfordshire FA Director Paul Mallett commented “This event showcases the growing strength of Futsal in our county, with the standard increasing year on year. Congratulations to our winners today and best of luck representing Hertfordshire in the regional stages”.
