New Referee CPD Event

Introducing our first online development evening for Hertfordshire Referees

Our first online Continuous Professional Development (CPD) evening for Referees

Thank you to all those who attended on Wednesday 25th November, taking the opportunity to hear from some experienced speakers with valuable insights relating to Refereeing in general and specifically within Hertfordshire.

With over 90 referees from a variety of different levels of football taking part it was a resounding success and something we look forward to continuing in future, with another event scheduled for early February 2021.

Steve Maker, Head of Football Development and Investment at Hertfordshire FA said “I was delighted with the response to our first online CPD evening for Referees. In these challenging times it was fantastic to be able to bring so many of the county's match officials together in this way."

"This is the start of a programme of work to support Referees across Hertfordshire through the coming seasons. As we learn through delivering each event I am sure those who attend will continue to see the benefit from the time they are committing to their professional development."

"Many thanks to Farai and Russell for their fantastic contributions on the evening. For those looking for a taste of what was covered, the slides from their presentations are available to download, along with details from the Q&A session and some useful links that were discussed."

We were delighted to be joined by the following guests who presented on the evening:

Farai Hallam - National Referee Manager, The FA

Farai is a Level 3 Referee and Assistant Referee on the National League and FA Women’s Super League. Previously a semi-professional footballer with spells at a number of clubs including Stevenage FC, he stopped playing due to injury and took up the whistle. Farai will be sharing information around the new FA Strategy for Referees, updating us on the new Referee Courses and using some video discussion clips to help identify current trends within the game.

Russell Jones - Referee Observer Organiser in Hertfordshire

Russell joined as Observer organiser in February 2020 and is in his first season running the scheme for promotion candidates in Hertfordshire. Russell is a Level 3 Referee and Assistant, plying his trade on the FA Women’s Super League and the National League – South. Russell will be providing an overview of the Referee Observer scheme in Hertfordshire and the process for those who wish to climb the ladder and achieve further success in their Referee career.

Steve Maker - Head of Football Development and Investment, Hertfordshire FA

Steve will be delivering an update from Hertfordshire FA which will include information on COVID-19, Referee coloured shirts, a new Referee Support Group and some practical guidance to assist you through the rest of the season.

Hertfordshire FA are committed to delivering future events for Referees through the season and further details will follow.

We look forward to seeing you there.
