Courses Update

Latest information on Coaching, Referee and Safeguarding courses in Hertfordshire in light of COVID-19

Keeping you updated on the status of Coaching, Safeguarding and Referee courses in Hertfordshire following the COVID-19 pandemic

UPDATED 08/02/2021 15:00

Hertfordshire FA have been working closely with FA Education to look at restarting delivery of our Education Courses in line with FA and DCMS COVID-19 Guidance.

Through this process our first priority was supporting learners who had already started a course and who needed to finish some aspects to complete their qualification. Due to restricted capacity and the need to meet this demand, it is therefore with regret that we, like many other County FAs across the country, have decided not to run any new coaching courses before April 2021.

This decision has also been reached in conjunction with guidance outlined by The FA Education department, who are working towards the launch of a updated suite of education courses from that date. This modernised offer, which utilises digital means in addition to the traditional face to face and pitchside sessions, will open up more learning opportunities for coaches.

Below is some further information and guidance relating to specific courses in the intervening period:

Introductory Coaching Courses

If you are new to coaching and don’t have an FA Level 1 coaching qualification, please register your interest for the new Introduction to Coaching Football course. You may also like to complete the free online FA Playmaker award prior to attending the introduction to coaching football course.

FA Level 2 and UEFA B Coaching Courses

For existing learners we will resume in-situ visits as appropriate in line with guidance from DCMS and The FA and will contact them directly with details.

In terms of new courses, we can advise that The FA Level 2 & UEFA B Coaching courses are currently under review by The FA and we continue to work with them to understand when these courses will be available again and in what format.

Safeguarding Courses

If your previous FA Safeguarding qualification has expired (or is more than two-and-a-half years old) you can renew this online via The FA Safeguarding Children Re-Certification. If you have not completed an FA Safeguarding Workshop before, please complete the online Safeguarding for All module.

If you are a Club Welfare Officer that needs to complete the relevant training for this position, you can now complete the Welfare Officers Workshop online (you will need to be logged in order to select one of the sessions listed further down the page).

First Aid Courses

If your IFAiF qualification was due to expire since March 2020, your current qualification should have automatically been extended by The FA until February 2021. If you have not completed the FA Introductory First Aid in Football before, please complete the online learning available around Concussion and Sudden Cardiac Arrest. We are working with The FA to deliver new Emergency First Aid courses in 2021.

Referee Courses

The basic Referee Course is currently under review by the FA Referee’s Department and a new version is expected to launch by April 2021. As we focus our efforts on supporting referees who were already on courses prior to the COVID outbreak, we will not be running new courses before then.

Referee Feedback Workshops

If you have already undertaken a Referee Course and need to attend a Feedback Workshop to complete your qualification, we are working to schedule these according to demand (once COVID restrictions allow). If you have completed your 5 games and would like to register your interest to attend one of these, please complete the online form and we will get in touch with details of upcoming dates .
