Player Welfare Course

New Player Welfare Course

Open to all, the new Player Welfare Course is available online for free

The new Player Welfare Course is available free online from England Football Learning

This course is available for everyone, giving a broad coverage of the different welfare issues that can arise in clubs, leagues, and counties.

However, there is an emphasis on Open Age clubs, in particular the Club Welfare Officer for adult teams, as this completing this course will become a requirement for them from next season, along with all officials of open age teams with players who are under 18.

The free, online course takes approximately 45 minutes to complete and covers what player welfare is, why it’s important and how a positive culture and behaviour can help get the best out of your players and keep them in the game.

The content focuses on key issues that can impact player welfare, including:

  • Safeguarding
  • Misconduct
  • Mental health
  • Medical concerns
  • Domestic abuse
  • Equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Physical and digital environments
  • Signposting support and reporting concerns

The course is linked to a new welfare tab on the England Football Learning website, that will carry further support and signposting information. Integral to this is the recognition that Open Age football teams may have players who are under 18.
