Love Football? Try Futsal!

Futsal is the format of Small Sided Football that is recognised and supported by FIFA and UEFA.

A five-a-side game, Futsal is normally played on a flat indoor pitch with hockey sized goals and a size 4 ball with a reduced bounce. Games are 20 minutes per half, played to a stopping clock (similar to basketball) with time-outs permitted.

Futsal by it's nature places a large emphasis on technical ability in situations of high pressure, and proves an excellent tool to develop techniques that can be translated into the 11-a-side game.

Players are constantly placed in situations where they must play whilst under pressure or in confined spaces; helping to develop a player's technique, movement, tactical awareness and fitness.

Many of the top world class footballers played Futsal in their youth and credit it with supporting their footballing development.

Players of the calibre of Pele, Zico, Ronaldinho, Kaka, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Deco, and Xavi amongst others have played Futsal to develop their skills

Futsal FAQs

Each FA Futsal Fives league has six-eight teams that play each other twice over the course of a 10-14 week season. Leagues will typically be played at the same indoor venue each week, and each team will play one game per week.

Matches will be 15-20 minutes each half on a running clock (i.e. the clock won’t be stopped every time there is a break in play like full Futsal rules), and FA qualified Futsal referees will officiate each game.

Teams can sign up online using the Team Registration Form or alternatively email fafutsalfives@hertfordshirefa.com

On signing up to FA Futsal Fives Hertfordshire, teams agree to abide by the competition rules of the league.
